Time for another update. Life has been pretty interesting here this past week or so since I sent my last update. I hope that all of you are doing well and I would love to hear back from you.
We were able to go back into the schools this week as the temperatures have been hovering in the 30's and 40's. That may seem cold to a lot of you but when the previous week was in the single digits, the 30's and 40's seems kinda warm.
We had another great week of teaching and Bible club. I wish I could tell you every single thing that happened but that would be way too long of an email.
Two main things that really stood out from this week were the Bible club on Tuesday and a 6th grade class that I have on Wednesdays.
Since last session, there is this little girl at Bible club that I just cannot connect with. She showed up at Bible club this past week and I knew that I had to stay close by her but I didn't know why.
We went to go listen to the bible lesson and during the lesson she turns back to me and asks, "Who is Satan?" I knew right then why God was having me stay close by her.
At the end of the Bible lesson, I took her to a quiet spot and began to counsel her. I talked about God and who He is and that He is perfect and cannot be near sin. Then I took her to Isaiah 14 and started talking about Satan and how he turned out to be evil. This then led into talking about how we have sin. I could tell that she was understanding most of it even at the age of six but I wanted to know about her salvation.
I asked her if she had received Jesus into her heart before and she said she didn't know. I then asked her if she were to die that night, if she knew whether or not she would go to heaven and she said no. I then started telling her how she could be saved and be sure of her destination but her mother arrived and I had to end the counseling.
I was absolutely crushed that I could not talk to her for a longer period of time. I am looking forward to going back and talking to her and seeing if she wants to make a decision on her salvation. Please pray that God would keep her heart soft and that I would be able to talk to her again.
As for my 6th grade class, once again, I was going into my hard class of the week and I was having to lean on the Lord with all my strength, knowing that I might have to throw my lesson plan out the window once more.
My teaching partner and I walked into our 6th grade class ready to see if they did the heart challenge that we gave them the other week on forgiveness. Sadly, only two of them did anything the past two weeks. A bunch of them told me that it was hard to forgive and so I told them that that was the reason for the challenge.
So, we moved on with the lesson and started teaching them about gratefulness. I could tell that they were having sort of a difficult time with it (as in, having an attitude about it), so I decided to give them another hard challenge.
Their regular teacher was not there that day because she was ill, so I decided that their challenge was to be that they were to show gratefulness to their teacher in some way when she came back. Whether it was doing a task/job for her or writing her a thank you note etc. Anything to show her that they are grateful for all that she does for them. Immediately I got objections from half of the class. They started backbiting on their teacher and I had to try to make them see that maybe the reason why she is the way she is, is because of them and how they treat her. I could tell that they did not like it, but God showed me and my teaching partner that their need for respect and honor is a great need.
My earnest hope and prayer is that we are starting to really connect with them and are helping them to realize how important good true character is. If you could pray for that class as well, that you be wonderful.
Adam Wentworth is also doing quite well. He seems to be handling all the stress of classes and homework very well and he is enjoying himself.
Please pray that the both of us would be able to stay focused on our work and that we would be able to connect well with all of our children. Also, if you could pray that I do not get too sick and that I am able to quickly knock out a cold that is starting to develop that would be great because I really do not feel like missing any school days and being stuck in my room.
