Faith Burnside is the National Director of our partner organization, the Freedom's Defenders.
Hi! Can you introduce yourself to our readers and fellow members?
Hey everyone! Well to start out, my name is Faith Burnside. I am 18 years old and I live in Northwest Indiana! That is kind of the basics. I am also a freshman CollegePlus! student, a member of Generation Joshua and the VDP and the co-founder and National Director of FreedomsDefenders.com!
What's a typical day in your life like?
On a typical day I start out by waking my little brother and sister up (I say little though my brother is significantly taller than me). We then proceed to take care of our various dogs, which are black mouth curs. After that we have breakfast and Bible time with my Mom then move on to school! School involves for me studying through CollegePlus! Usually mid to late afternoon, we stop school and go outside to take care of our animals which includes a horse, a varied selection of goats, sheep, chickens, and two rabbits, as well as, of course, our dogs. Later either during or after dinner we enjoy a few episodes of Star Trek then off to bed! I’m really not a late night person.
What do you do as a member of Generation Joshua? What is it like?
As a member of Generation Joshua or as its commonly called GenJ, I have a ton of opportunities! The one I’ve used most is their online forums and chat room. On the forums we have tons of great conversations, as well as playing games. The chat room is decidedly less formal and there is rarely a serious conversation. GenJ also has summer camps called variously iGovern West, East and Pacific where the campers learn about how bills become law, diplomacy, parliamentary procedure, and much more along, with just having fun. Now I saved the best for last: My favorite GenJ activity is the Student Action Teams or the SATs. An SAT is when a bunch of students go and campaign for a HSLDA PAC endorsed candidate. These are a ton of fun, but also a whole lot of work. We come home from these five-day trips exhausted, but renewed and inspired.
As the National Director and Co-Founder of our partners, the Freedom’s Defenders, what is your vision for this organization?
This is a hard question. My vision for Freedom’s Defenders is that we can become a great resource for people who don’t have the time to look up every candidates stance on important issue or what bills are threatening their beliefs. Another goal of mine is to inspire people to take a stand for freedom. If we can accomplish these two things, basically educating and inspiring I will believe that we have done our job.
You are looking for state coordinators, correct? What does that entail?
Yes, that is correct. A state coordinator is basically the eyes and ears of Freedom’s Defenders in their state. Our national team stays very busy and we obviously can’t keep an eye on every race and legislature in every state. So that where a state coordinator comes in! All this individual has to do is keep an ear out for any dangerous or good legislation as well as any dangerous or good candidates, when you find such a bill or candidate tell one of the members of the National team and we will update the appropriate pages! Its a very simple job but also great experience and something that would look nice on a resume!
Apart from politics, what interests you? Books, TV shows, music, etc.?
Outside of politics, I love old stuff. Old books, old movies, old people, and old stuff (antiques). I also enjoy beekeeping, raising dogs, goats and a horse as well as Star Trek!
What is God doing anything in your life lately? Anything we can pray about?
God has been moving a lot lately. He has been reminding me of his power and the mighty things he can do both with us and without us.
Please pray for diligence and courage!
